Our cover design features the impressive monument at Guimaroes of Alfonso Henriques (1128-’85), the founder of teh Portuguese kingdom. With this conquering sword we traced the outline of Portugal, which, since the 13th century, was ruled by three dynasties: that at the Bourguinons or Founders; then the Avis or Discoverers whose ships ploughed through, the tenebrous seas and gave new world, and lastly the Braganzas who shipped gold from Brazil to enhance their places and precious collections.
